Tis the season of the Cape Gooseberry - my favourite fruit of all! So often used to adorn a dessert in restaurants but then left uneaten beside the chocolate fudge cake crumbs. they are so sharp and tangy with such an intense, individual flavour. Revealing the golden orb within the papery wrapper is no effort compared to peeling a satsuma and the are bursting with anti-oxidants & vitamins.
Cape Gooseberries go by so many names (physalis is a common one and the name goldenberry seems to be a new arrival thanks to a marketing department somewhere) . Try to get your hands on some before the season ends.
